About The Sheriff of Prince Edward County

Travis Harris Jr. came to the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office after serving as a Capitol Police Officer. Sheriff Harris has been serving Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office since 1976. Sheriff Harris served as the Chief Deputy with the rank of captain starting in 1994.

Sheriff Harris has served as Prince Edward County's Sheriff since 2000. Sheriff Harris instituted changes in the sheriff department first by Modernizing the department with new computer systems. Sheriff Harris at this same time instituted changes in the department so that his deputies could keep up with the changing law enforcement techniques and updated the equipment they use.

Sheriff Harris is a valued administrator making his primary goal the safety of the county’s citizens, it’s visitors, as well as his deputies. Sheriff Harris is a fair and impartial man that expects no less from the deputies that serve under his administration as Sheriff of Prince Edward County.

Sheriff Harris also began the State Accreditation Process for the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office in the later months of 2008. This State Accreditation is a highly prized accreditation that often takes many years for a department or office to obtain and even harder work to maintain. Not all departments can meet these highest of standards to become an accredited department. Sheriff Harris appointed Deputy S. Walker to oversee and manage this progressive change.
